Direct to Garment Printing or DTG for short, is a printing technology that jets an eco-friendly water based ink onto the garment to create your image. The ink is bonded onto the garment by a pretreatment layer that is cured in a textile dryer.
That's a great question. We've been designing & printing garments for over 20 years. During that time we've produced millions of shirts for thousands of clients and have continued to expand to offer you the latest & greatest in print technologies.
Screen printing uses a plastisol ink pushed through a synthetic mesh screen by a squeegee to create your image. A unique screen must be made for each color element of your design. The individual screens are then registered and printed layer by layer onto the garment. The final step is to cure the ink in a textile dryer, which bonds it to the shirt.
They both have their best use case scenarios. DTG printing truly excels in cost and print quality on full color detailed images on short run orders of up to 288 pieces. Screen printing offers a great value on 1-3 simple solid color graphics on run sizes greater than 24 pieces.
The images below are examples of what type of designs are typically ideal for each printing method.
Left Chest design 3"-4" wide
Adult front design 10"-12" wide * Adult back design 10"-12" wide
Ladies and Youth designs 9"-11" wide
Placement is typical to industry standards. Left Chest & Center Front graphics are placed approximately 45mm down from bottom of the collar. Back Images are placed approximately 80 mm down from bottom of the collar. If you require specific placement please contact Customer Service.
